Predicting Responsible Environmental Behavior and Participation in Environmental Protection Based on Environmental Beliefs of the Students by Mediating Environmental Attitudes

Abstract

The present study was applied in terms of purpose and descriptive-correlational research in terms of data collection. The statistical population included all students of the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology of Semnan University (434 people) in the academic year of 1397-98. The participants were 204 students who were selected using stratified random sampling method. All of them completed the Environmental Beliefs Questionnaire, the Environmental Attitude, the Participation in Environmental Protection, and the Responsible Behavior of the Environment. Data were analyzed using SPSS19 and Lisrel 8.5 software and Pearson correlation coefficient and path analysis model using statistical methods. The findings showed that environmental beliefs do not have a significant effect on student participation in environmental protection, but mediated by the environmental attitude, it has an indirect effect on participation in environmental protection. Environmental beliefs have a direct and significant effect on the responsible behavior of students 'living environment and also mediate the environmental attitude of life has an indirect and significant effect on the responsible behavior of students' living environment. Environmental beliefs can directly and indirectly affect the responsible behavior of the environment and participation in the protection of the environment.
