The Study of Effective Factors in Cultivation of Landraces that Resistant to Climate Change Basede on Indigenous Knowledge of Rural Women in East Azerbaijan

Abstract

The cultivation of landraces that are resistant to environmental stresses, pests and plant diseases and have a less need for fertilizers and toxins is important for Increasing access to healthy and nutritious food and tackling climate change that has endangered food production in the contemporary world. In this regard, the native knowledge of people who are traditionally engaged in agriculture is important because it guides the researchers to make appropriate decisions against climate change. This manuscript based on the findings of research to explore the indigenous knowledge of cultivation of landraces among rural women of East Azerbaijan. The research method is qualitative and data collection was done by semi-structured interviews with farmer women. Data analysis by thematic analysis shows that important factors it takes the form of social and economic structures. The results indicate that the combination of the three issues of gender, climate change and agricultural production can lead the agricultural sector to more successful policies to encourage farmers to cultivate landraces and preserve native seeds.
